Research Area

It may be most critical for us to understand and control nano-bio materials at the levels of electrons, atoms, and molecules in order to conquer several challenges of mankind in the 21st century, for example, energy and medicine. In our lab, by taking advantages of state-of-the-art computational quantum-mechanics (first-principles or ab initio) methodologies and large-scale parallel supercomputing machines, we explore intrinsic properties and functionalities of nano-bio materials at the level of electrons and atoms. Based on understanding achieved, we predict and design new functional nano-bio materials that can be used for energy and medicine technologies. Currently we have interested in hydrogen storage materials, energy storage materials, nanostructured materials, nanoparticles, nanocatalysts, nano-bio hybrids, colloidal quantum dots, friction, thermoelectricity, and triboelectricity. We are aiming at interdisciplinary researches and training amongst physics, chemistry, materials science, computer science, etc.
